At EGS Fuels, we know the importance of understanding our fuels from the point of origin, to the method of storage, to the safe delivery of diesel to our customers. This is why we only sell ultra low sulphur diesel (ULSD) which we buy directly from the refinery and store it securely in fire-proof containers at our Cheshire base.

What is diesel and why is it so popular?

Diesel has a multitude of industrial and commercial uses. Made from a mixture of crude oil components known as hydrocarbons, it is a stable fuel source which is much less explosive and flammable than other fuels. For This reason, it is often used in military vehicles, trucks, trains, boats and buses, as well as on farms, in the construction industry, and in infrastructure projects.

Diesel engines work by compressing the air inside the fuel cylinder in order to raise the temperature of the gas to the point of ignition. Diesel fanatics believe that this process is safer and more user-friendly than other forms of petroleum, where high- high-voltage spark ignitions (spark plugs) are relied upon. Because diesel engines don’t require spark ignitions, it is harder to stall the vehicle, or to cause internal damage to the engine.

FUN FACT: Diesel takes its name from its founder Rudolf Diesel, while working to invent an engine that would run on coal dust only.

Who needs diesel?

Diesel is most commonly used in heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) such as trucks and articulated lorries, and many of our customers buy their diesel in bulk to fuel their fleets of HGVs. However, our diesel products are by no means limited to haulage firms. Since EGS Fuels was established in 1993, we have been supplying fuels and oils to customers of all stripes in Cheshire, Manchester and most parts of the UK.

Diesel has been an incredibly popular source of agricultural, commercial and industrial fuel since it was first rolled out in the 1930s. This means that our clients can be based anywhere from the coast to the mountains; in rural areas or in cities.
